I like Nattō! / なっとう が すき です!

I’ve only ever tried nattō (なっとう) hidden in okonomiyaki before, and then it was only a tiny bit. But this week I have been experimenting with my food a bit and trying to learn some more about Japanese food. So I figured it was about time for nattō!

A colleague has been helping me around the local cheap food store, and making recommendations. Today she showed me this:

…which is nattō and I didn’t even realise it before!  This one is ‘big’ nattō – meaning that the beans are bigger (about the size of baked beans actually!).

She recommended that I try it with this:

…which is a kind of seaweed in a sort of vinegar.  I was very dubious, but feeling open to trying something new.

I got home and opened the nattō:

It was a little stickier than I imagined, and a tiny bit smelly, but I added the seaweed as instructed!

…and… it tasted pretty good!!  This is ultra healthy food, full of loads of protein and stuff, so it’s great that I like it! (It will make up for all the chocolate and crisps I eat!)  Also it’s really easy to prepare quickly, so good for a late night snack after work. :D

Who’d have thought I’d like nattō?!  It would seem I’m turning Japanese, oh yes I’m turning Japanese, I really think so! haha!

In other news, there are more new Kit Kats!

The apple ones are particularly yummy!

I had Japanese class today but I’m tired now so I’ll write about it over the weekend!

おやすみなさい!
