I WILL NO LONGER BE UPDATING THIS KIT KAT PAGE WITH NEW PHOTOS. PLEASE CHECK THE LINK ABOVE INSTEAD! (8th September 2009)

☆★☆

Before my first trip to Japan, a friend said to me, “they make wine flavoured Kit Kats in Japan – please find one for me!”.  I thought he was having me on, perhaps, as all I could find were green-tea flavoured Kit Kats.  On my second trip, I looked again.  This time I found ’sakura’ (cherry blossom) Kit Kats (actually, peach flavoured).  Still no wine flavour.

For some reason, Japan has the best, and most varied, flavours of Kit Kats I have ever known.  Since I’ve been here, I’ve become quite fascinated by this phenomenon, and I’m not alone!  As I search the Internet, I can find many other people like me, on the quest for the new flavour.  I only wish I had started photographing them earlier!

This site: http://www.breaktown.com/ (in Japanese) seems to list new flavours as they are coming out.  The hunt is on…

For now, I will continue to upload pictures of flavours, as and when I find them (most recent at the top):

Also, there’s a great Flickr group here, where you can see many different kinds of Kit Kats.

An interesting ‘fact’ about Kit Kats in Japan… They are popular around exam season (in February) and mums often put them into their kids’ lunchboxes to wish them luck.  Why?  Because the Japanese phrase “kitto katsu” (which sounds a lot like Kit Kat, if you’re Japanese) means “surely win”.  You’ve gotta love Japan! ;)

  1. That’s great. I wonder if they’ll have any special flavours for Christmas?
    xxx

  2. I bet they will!!

  3. Oh my… did you get all of those in ONE day… they look fabulous.. I really like Nestle = ) Good choco as always and coffee Nescafe = )

  4. Haha, no, I wish!! Some of these pictures are two years old! They tend to bring out a different Kit Kat for each season, or event.

  5. Where did you find the apple? I’ve been hunting for that and especially mango. Have fun collecting, I do! Oh, and FYI, 7-11 often gets them sooner than a Family Mart or AM/PM, and they also sometimes are the only store to carry a particular flavor!

  6. Thanks for your comment, Katie!

I found the apple in Max Value, I think. It was some time ago now though. Max Value often has these bags of the mini Kit Kats in different flavours.

Thanks for the tip. I wish there was a 7-11 around here! I’m surrounded by Circle Ks instead. I need to find one in town… ;)

  7. [...] Girl is showing off her collection of Kit Kats, and it’s pretty impressive.  She’s right that Japan has the best selection of Kit Kat [...]

  8. One of my students has just told me that the Kit Kat you’ve named as cherry blossom flavour is actually peach!

  9. Haha, given that it’s actually got peaches on the box, that’s probably true!! Thanks – I’ll edit… :)

  11. You found 13 Kit Kats in Hokkaido?!?!

  15. They have sports drink kit-kats?!?! Wow… do they taste like Pocari Sweat or what? Also, if you’re looking for Tanabata Festivals, Ichinomiya has one of the biggest in Japan towards the end of the month. It goes on from Thursday-Saturday. It’s intense, but interesting. Hope you’re doing well!
