I had a little surprise in the post the other day – a long-awaited prize which, to be honest I had given up on. You might remember that back in June I won a Brighton Japan Festival photo contest – well, due to some kind of mix-up, I never actually received my prize. Anyway, I won’t go on about that, because I’m very happy with my prize now it’s here.
This washi (和紙) paper gift set (above) from The Japanese Shop includes a jewellery box, notebook, wallet and card case.
The Japanese Shop is a UK-based online shop selling goods from Japan, including food, clothing, kokeshi dolls, lacquerware, tableware and stationery. They have some really nice stuff, and right now they’re having a January sale with up to 50% off, which is far too tempting.
Washi is generally stronger than ordinary paper, and it has a really nice texture. All of the items above feel really good, and seem to be very well made. I’m a sucker for stationery, and although I have loads of notebooks already I’m sure I’ll find a use for this one. The jewellery box is also really cute, and I like stashing things away in little drawers.
Isn’t it nice when you get a surprise in the post? 🙂
